Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is a Functional Capacity Assessment (FCA)?
A Functional Capacity Assessment (FCA) is a detailed evaluation by an Occupational Therapist to determine how you manage everyday activities such as self-care, domestic tasks, work, and community participation. The report outlines your abilities, areas of difficulty, and recommended supports—often used for NDIS plan reviews or new applications.
2. Who can access an OT assessment at Steps2Life?
Our assessments are open to NDIS participants (self, plan, or NDIA-managed), Medicare and private health clients, and self-funded individuals. We also accept referrals from GPs, Support Coordinators, and allied-health professionals.
3. Can OT assessments be done at home or via telehealth?
Yes. We offer flexible assessment options across Sydney, including in-clinic appointments (North Parramatta, Regents Park, Penrith), home visits, and telehealth sessions for convenience and accessibility.
4. How long does the OT assessment process take?
Most assessments take 1–2 hours, depending on complexity. A comprehensive written report is typically completed within 10–14 business days, including tailored recommendations aligned with NDIS or clinical standards.
5. Do I need a referral to book an OT assessment?
No referral is needed for NDIS or private clients. If you’re accessing services through Medicare, you’ll need a Chronic Disease Management Plan (CDM) from your GP to receive a rebate.
