Funding
Funding That Works for Your Goals
We support participants across New South Wales with therapy and support services funded through a range of pathways. Our team helps ensure your services align with your goals, funding requirements, and Australian regulations—making it easier to access the support you need.
How funding works at Steps2Life
Most clients use one main source, though some combine more than one. Common options include the NDIS, Medicare care plans, private health insurance, workers compensation, Department of Veterans’ Affairs cards, aged care packages and self-paying. Each has its own eligibility rules, referral requirements and session limits.
Choosing the right option for you
When you contact us, our team will ask a few questions about your goals, any referrals you have and how your plan or policy works. We can then explain which option may apply, what paperwork to bring and whether any gap fees are likely. If you are a support coordinator or referrer, we are happy to confirm service details and pricing before sessions begin.

Funding options at a glance
There is more than one way to pay for allied health therapy. The right option depends on your age, your circumstances and the supports you need. Here is a quick overview of the seven pathways we work with at Steps2Life.
1. The NDIS
NDIS participants can use their plan to pay for therapy and support services, whether the plan is agency-managed, plan-managed or self-managed. Read our guide to understanding the NDIS or visit the official NDIS website to learn more.
2. Medicare
If you have a chronic medical condition, your GP may prepare a Chronic Condition Management Plan that gives you access to Medicare rebates for a set number of allied health sessions each calendar year. See our Medicare page for details on eligibility and how to claim.
3. Private health insurance
Many extras policies include cover for services such as physiotherapy, speech pathology, occupational therapy, dietetics and psychology. Limits and rebates vary between funds and policies, so check with your insurer before your first visit. Learn more on our private health insurance page.
4 to 7. Other government programs
- Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) for eligible veterans and their families
- Workers’ compensation for people recovering from a workplace injury
- Aged care programs for older Australians receiving in-home or residential support
- Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) programs for eligible children and families
Paying privately
You can also choose to pay for sessions yourself, without a referral or plan. Private clients can book directly online and pay at the clinic, where we accept all major cards except American Express.
Not sure where to start?
It is common to be eligible for more than one option, or to be unsure which one applies to you. Our friendly intake team can explain the choices in plain language, help you understand what information to bring, and make sure your sessions are claimed correctly from the start. Contact us or call 1300 009 006 to talk through your goals.
