Empowering Positive Change
At Steps2life, we believe every behaviour is meaningful. Our Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) services help people with disability understand and express their needs, develop new skills and build independence. Through a person-centred, strengths-based approach, we work alongside you and those who know you best to create a supportive environment where positive behaviours flourish and quality of life improves.
What Is Positive Behaviour Support?
Positive Behaviour Support is an evidence‑based approach that focuses on improving the quality of life for people with disability and their support networks. Rather than “fixing” behaviour, PBS seeks to understand why challenging behaviours occur and address those underlying needs. It emphasises respect, dignity, and collaboration. Through tailored strategies and environmental adjustments, PBS helps people develop communication, social and coping skills, paving the way for greater independence and wellbeing.

Who Might Need Positive Behaviour (PBS) Support?
Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) may be beneficial for individuals experiencing challenging behaviours that impact their daily life and relationships. This includes participants who face complex or high-risk situations and may need tailored support, such as:
- Autism spectrum disorder
- Intellectual disability
- Mental health challenges
- Difficulties with communication or emotional regulation
- Challenging behaviours affecting social interactions or independence
Eligibility for PBS is determined through collaboration with an NDIS planner, who will assess specific needs and potential eligibility. It’s important for participants or their caregivers to discuss individual circumstances and goals with their NDIS planner to determine how PBS can be best implemented to support their wellbeing.

FAQs
Who is Positive Behaviour Support for?
PBS is designed for children, adolescents and adults living with disability who experience behaviours that impact their daily lives and relationships.
How is PBS different from psychology?
Positive Behaviour Support targets specific behaviours of concern by developing a structured plan in consultation with you and your support network. Psychology typically focuses on mental health through one‑on‑one therapy. Both can be part of your NDIS plan and often complement each other.
How long does the process take?
Every person is different. You can expect an initial assessment and plan development over several weeks, followed by regular check‑ins and adjustments. Our commitment is to walk beside you for as long as you need us.
Will the NDIS fund Positive Behaviour Support?
If your NDIS plan includes funding for Improved Relationships or Improved Daily Living, it may cover behaviour support services. We can help you understand your plan and what supports are available.
