Positive Behaviour Support

Who Might Need Positive Behaviour (PBS) Support?

Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) may be beneficial for individuals experiencing challenging behaviours that impact their daily life and relationships. This includes participants who face complex or high-risk situations and may need tailored support, such as:

  • Autism spectrum disorder
  • Intellectual disability
  • Mental health challenges
  • Difficulties with communication or emotional regulation
  • Challenging behaviours affecting social interactions or independence

Eligibility for PBS is determined through collaboration with an NDIS planner, who will assess specific needs and potential eligibility. It’s important for participants or their caregivers to discuss individual circumstances and goals with their NDIS planner to determine how PBS can be best implemented to support their wellbeing.

How We Help

We tailor our support to each individual because no two journeys are the same. Here's what you can expect when you choose Steps2life:

Comprehensive assessment

Our Behaviour Support Practitioners meet with you and your support team to understand your strengths, needs, and goals. We gather information through observation and conversation to identify what triggers behaviours of concern.

Individualised Behaviour Support Plan

Together we develop a plan that reflects your goals and preferences. It includes proactive strategies, teaching new skills and clear steps for supporters to follow.

Skill development

We provide training and coaching to build communication skills, social connections, emotional regulation, relaxation techniques, basic life skills and goal setting.

Environment modifications

Sometimes small changes in daily routines, the physical environment or communication methods can make a big difference. We help you make adjustments that remove triggers and create a supportive space.

Family and carer training

We empower your support network by sharing practical tools and strategies to promote positive behaviour and respond safely when challenges arise.

FAQs

Who is Positive Behaviour Support for?

PBS is designed for children, adolescents and adults living with disability who experience behaviours that impact their daily lives and relationships.

How is PBS different from psychology?

Positive Behaviour Support targets specific behaviours of concern by developing a structured plan in consultation with you and your support network. Psychology typically focuses on mental health through one‑on‑one therapy. Both can be part of your NDIS plan and often complement each other.

How long does the process take?

Every person is different. You can expect an initial assessment and plan development over several weeks, followed by regular check‑ins and adjustments. Our commitment is to walk beside you for as long as you need us.

Will the NDIS fund Positive Behaviour Support?

If your NDIS plan includes funding for Improved Relationships or Improved Daily Living, it may cover behaviour support services. We can help you understand your plan and what supports are available.

Still Have Questions?

We’re here to help!

Choosing the right Positive Behaviour Support is an important decision, and we’re committed to providing all the information you need. If you have questions about PBS, eligibility, or how it can benefit you, don’t hesitate to reach out.
