At Steps2Life our Psychologists use various therapies to help manage mental health disorders:

  • Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) targets negative thought and behaviour patterns, and is commonly used for depression and anxiety.
  • Psychodynamic therapy focuses on unconscious and past experiences and is often used for clients who have had severe trauma or have personality disorders.
  • Mindfulness based therapies, like mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT), teach presence and awareness, beneficial for conditions like Autism Spectrum Disorder, depression, and anxiety.
  • Family therapy improves communication and can help to resolve conflicts with family or friends, providing support and guidance for parents dealing with difficult children.
  • Group therapy offers peer support and is extremely beneficial for anyone who is uncomfortable with one-on-one sessions.

FAQ

1. How can I access Psychology services through funding options like NDIS or Medicare?

Psychology services can be accessed through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) if your NDIS plan includes funding for Psychology support. Additionally, Medicare provides rebates for psychological services under the Better Access to Mental Health Care initiative, which requires a referral from your GP. Private health insurance may also cover psychological services, depending on your policy. For assistance on these services, you can contact our friendly team on 1300 009 006.

2. How can Psychology help me?

Psychology can help you by providing support for emotional and behavioural challenges. Our psychologists use various techniques, such as cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), play therapy, and social skills training, to help you develop coping strategies, improve social interactions, and manage anxiety or depression. This
support can lead to better overall functioning and quality of life. To find out more information, contact us on 1300 009 006.

3. How can psychological therapy support families and caregivers of individuals with disabilities?

Psychology can provide valuable support to families and caregivers by helping them understand and manage the emotional and behavioural challenges associated with caring for a loved one with a disability. Our psychologists can offer coping strategies, stress management techniques, and guidance on improving communication and relationships within the family. This support can enhance the overall well-being of both the caregiver and the individual with a disability.
